Trump waxes nostalgic about good times with Kim Jong-un in photo dump

Former US President Donald Trump has signaled his eagerness to restart dialogue with North Korea by sharing a series of photos featuring himself and leader Kim Jong-un. The images, posted on Truth Social, were from their historic 2018 summit in Singapore and their June 2019 meeting at the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom.

Notably absent from the collection were any photographs from the 2019 Hanoi summit, where the leaders failed to reach an agreement on denuclearization measures and sanctions relief. Trump's move appears to be an attempt to leverage their past relationship and highlight perceived diplomatic successes, such as the joint statement signed in Singapore and Trump's border crossing at Panmunjom.

Sources suggest Trump hopes to secure a diplomatic achievement with North Korea that could counterbalance the highly unpopular conflict in Iran. However, Pyongyang has yet to issue a clear response to Trump's overtures. Despite multiple signals from Trump in recent days, North Korea proceeded with several ballistic missile launches last week.

While Trump has expressed his intention to arrange another meeting with Kim before the end of the year, the prospect of an actual bilateral summit remains uncertain. North Korea's continued missile activity suggests a continued frosty stance towards renewed engagement.
