Tsai Ing-wen becomes a fruit farmer for a day, picking lychees to support local produce

Former President Tsai Ing-wen made a trip to Kaohsiung to champion local agricultural products, specifically the "Jade Lychee" from Dashu District. Invited by legislators Lai Jui-lung and Chiu Yi-ying, Tsai engaged in a hands-on experience, picking lychees and learning about the cultivation and sales process.

Kaohsiung has representative agricultural brands and high-quality agricultural products across Taiwan. I hope more people can see and taste them!

During her visit, Tsai observed the meticulous steps from harvest to packaging, acknowledging the hard work and expertise of the farmers. She tasted specialty coffee made from Jade Lychees and expressed her hope that more people would recognize and enjoy Kaohsiung's high-quality produce. Legislator Chiu Yi-ying emphasized that Dashu Jade Lychees are a signature product of Kaohsiung, representing the culmination of farmers' long-term dedication.

This time, from food and agriculture experience, tea tasting to picking Jade Lychees herself, the itinerary is full, but it is only a small part of Kaohsiung's rural charm.

Legislator Lai Jui-lung highlighted Dashu as a major Jade Lychee production center, noting the fruit's limited two-week season. He expressed his desire to leverage the "presidential endorsement" to boost support for local agriculture. Plans are underway to expand marketing channels, enhance post-harvest handling, improve cold chain logistics, and strengthen branding, integrating tourism and agricultural education to promote Kaohsiung's products domestically and internationally.

Dashu Jade Lychee is one of Kaohsiung's most representative agricultural products. Not only is the quality good and the flavor excellent, but it also embodies the results of farmers' long-term hard work.

The visit also coincided with the upcoming "Dashu Fengli Cultural Tourism Festival," an annual event since 2003. This year's festival, scheduled for May 30-31, invites the public to experience the seasonal lychees and pineapples, and immerse themselves in Kaohsiung's rural charm.

Dashu is a major production area for Jade Lychee nationwide. The season begins around May, with a rare tasting period of only about two weeks per year. We also hope to use 'presidential-level promotion' to attract more people to support Kaohsiung's local agricultural products.
