Tsinghua University Rises to Record 142nd in QS World Rankings

Tsinghua University has achieved its highest-ever ranking in the QS World University Rankings, securing the 142nd position globally. Out of 8,808 universities evaluated, Tsinghua's ascent places it among the top 10% of institutions worldwide and second within Taiwan.

The university particularly excelled in two metrics closely tied to research visibility: "academic reputation" and "citations per faculty," both earning a global ranking of 151st. Its academic reputation ranks second in Taiwan, while its citations per faculty score improved by 36 places from the previous year. The university's research center noted that Tsinghua's faculty's論文 (papers) are cited more than three times the global median, with a nearly twofold increase in citations over the past five years, indicating growing international academic recognition.

Facing global higher education challenges such as declining birth rates and intense competition for talent, Tsinghua has implemented systems like the "Outstanding Talent Development Fund" and the "New Horizon Fund." These initiatives, along with the Research Talent Resource Center, aim to provide stable, long-term support for outstanding teachers and researchers, enabling them to focus on their work. Nearly 300 faculty members received the Outstanding Talent Development Fund this year, benefiting over a third of the university's staff across various disciplines.

Tsinghua is also prioritizing interdisciplinary research through ten key focus areas, including high-entropy materials, advanced semiconductors, quantum technology, artificial intelligence, brain science, and net-zero sustainability. This approach fosters collaboration among diverse research teams, strengthening Tsinghua's research reputation and expanding its international influence. The university also saw significant improvement in internationalization, rising 100 places to 422nd globally for the proportion of international students, with over 20 international students per 100 enrolled, more than double the global median.

The university's research center analysis pointed out that Tsinghua's average citation per teacher's paper is more than 3 times the global median, and has grown nearly 1 time in the past 5 years, showing that the visibility of research results in the international academic community continues to increase.
