Tunis motorists face major traffic changes starting Saturday due to bridge construction

Motorists in Tunis should prepare for significant traffic changes beginning Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10 a.m. The reorganization will affect circulation at the La Cagne bridge as part of the ongoing development project for the southern entrance to the capital, according to the Ministry of Equipment and Housing.

These measures are necessary to finalize the construction of the La Cagne bridge, which is integrated into the expansion of Regional Road No. 22 and its third phase. The ministry has outlined specific detours for drivers. Those traveling from Mornag and Hammamet towards central Tunis, the airport, or Bizerte must use the left lane at the La Cagne bridge before continuing on the main road.

Conversely, drivers heading from the same areas toward La Cagne and Bab Alioua must stay in the right lane at the bridge. The Ministry of Equipment is calling on all road users to exercise caution, adhere to the temporary signage, and reduce their speed. These actions are crucial for maintaining safety and ensuring the fluidity of traffic during the construction period.

The project aims to improve access to the capital, but the temporary disruptions highlight the challenges of large-scale infrastructure work. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and be aware of the new traffic patterns to avoid delays and ensure a safe commute.
