Tunisia hit by severe storms, flash floods across several regions

Tunisia experienced significant weather disruptions on Wednesday, with heavy thunderstorms and flash floods impacting several regions in the center and west of the country. The governorate of Kasserine bore the brunt of the storm, facing severe rainfall, overflowing wadis, and disrupted road traffic.

Areas like Thala, Haïdra, and parts of Foussana delegation in Kasserine, along with Makthar in Siliana and southern Kef, were particularly affected. Ameur Bahba, a geography teacher and climatology researcher, explained that these sudden weather shifts are caused by "convective and orographic disturbances," common phenomena in the afternoon and evening.

Bahba described the storm in Haïdra as "particularly violent," causing near-zero visibility and forcing drivers to stop. The road between Thala and Haïdra was temporarily closed due to overflowing wadis. He advised citizens and drivers to remain vigilant, avoid low-lying areas, wadi beds, and flooded roads until conditions improve.

The expert anticipates the stormy activity to decrease after 8 PM, with only scattered light showers possible. While some atmospheric instability might return on Thursday afternoon, it is expected to be less intense than Wednesday's events.
