Tunisia recovers 8 bodies of drowned migrants

The number of confirmed dead from a migrant boat that capsized off the southern Tunisian city of Ben Guerdane has climbed to eight, according to the Tunisian National Guard. The grim discovery was made on Sunday as search and rescue operations continue.

Hussam Eddine Jebbali, a spokesperson for the National Guard, stated that efforts are still underway to locate six other individuals who remain missing. Military helicopters are participating in the extensive search, which is focused on finding those who were on board the vessel when it overturned.

The boat had departed from the Tunisian coast last Wednesday. It began taking on water and subsequently sank on Friday night into Saturday in the Al-Jadariya area, near the coast of Ben Guerdane. So far, only one migrant has been confirmed to have survived the disaster.
