Tunisia's Kef Governorate Declares War on Road Chaos and Non-Compliant Speed Bumps

The governorate of Kef in Tunisia is taking decisive action against urban anarchy and unsafe road conditions following a surge in traffic accidents. Governor Walid Kaïba chaired a crisis meeting involving municipalities, law enforcement, technical services, and community groups to implement a comprehensive plan aimed at curbing accident rates.

The anarchic speed bumps will be purely destroyed and reinstalled according to the norms of legal engineering, while being equipped with retro-reflective devices.

The regional road safety commission has identified key problem areas and approved a significant overhaul of urban infrastructure. This includes repairing roads, installing modern vertical signage, repainting road markings, and upgrading street lighting. A particular focus will be placed on speed bumps; those found to be non-compliant will be demolished and rebuilt according to legal engineering standards, equipped with reflective elements for better visibility.

Beyond infrastructure, the initiative prioritizes reclaiming public urban spaces. Authorities have ordered large-scale operations to clear sidewalks of unauthorized commercial occupation and illegal vehicle parking, which currently force pedestrians into dangerous traffic. Simultaneously, awareness campaigns targeting motorcyclists will emphasize the risks of speeding and the mandatory use of helmets.

Governor Kaïba stressed the importance of strict adherence to these directives, stating that the fight against road incivility will combine citizen prevention with inflexible deterrent measures. The plan aims to create a safer environment for all road users in Kef.
