Tunisian steeplechaser Maroua Bouzayani faces major test at Lausanne Diamond League

Tunisian athlete Maroua Bouzayani faces a significant test at the upcoming Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, where she will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase. Bouzayani's recent performance indicates that her winter preparation was highly effective, yielding very conclusive results that confirm the success of her training plan and the accuracy of projections.

Despite the perceived drawback of not having a high-altitude training component in her preparation, Bouzayani will be competing against two athletes who have trained at altitude. She enters the race with the goal of improving her own Tunisian national record of 8 minutes 58.09 seconds, a mark she set on May 16, 2026, at the Shanghai Diamond League. This achievement made her the first Tunisian woman to break the nine-minute barrier in the discipline.

Bouzayani, the national record holder and a previous winner in Stockholm, is considered one of the favorites in Lausanne. She will face strong competition from Bahrain's Olympic champion Winfred Yavi and Kenya's Faith Cherotich. The race holds the potential for a world record, provided conditions are favorable.
