Tupac Shakur case: Duane “Keffe D” Davis speaks about P. Diddy after verdict

Duane “Keffe D” Davis has spoken publicly for the first time since a jury found him responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Davis continued to deny the killing and said he expected to regain his freedom through an appeal.

“I wasn’t even caught on video in Las Vegas,” Davis said, insisting that he was not in the city on the night of the attack, Sept. 7, 1996. He also said his civil rights had been violated during the trial and accused witnesses, police officers and prosecutors of lying.

Davis again rejected a long-running claim that Sean Combs, known as P. Diddy, had offered $1 million to kill Shakur and Suge Knight. “I’m a good man, man. I’m a good person. I’m not any damn murderer. Puff never offered me any damn million dollars for them,” he said, arguing that the story had been invented by his former lawyer.

He also denied that Combs paid for his legal defense. Davis said he had tried to contact Combs and Dr. Dre to ask for financial help with his lawyers, but said he was unable to reach them.

The case went unresolved for almost 30 years. In his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend, Davis had described himself as a witness to the shooting, saying he was in the car from which the shots were fired and identifying his late nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, as one of the shooters. Police arrested Davis on Sept. 29, 2023, after a search of his wife’s home the previous month. The jury convicted him of first-degree murder, and Judge Carli Kierny scheduled sentencing for Oct. 13, 2026.
