Turaki-Led PDP Faction Backs G-100 Push to Defeat APC

A faction of Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has backed an initiative to bring opposition parties together before the 2027 general election.

The faction announced its position after the first G-100 meeting at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. Representatives of six opposition parties attended the summit and agreed to begin structured negotiations on cooperation.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a responsible opposition party, has endorsed the G-100, a group of 100 opposition stalwarts, driven process of creating an all-opposition front to challenge the incumbent APC candidate in the 2027 general elections.

The proposed process would create standing committees and working groups to develop plans for opposition unity, a national reform programme and a shared presidential candidate. The Turaki faction said its participation reflected its earlier support for cooperation with parties and organizations seeking to challenge the All Progressives Congress.

In its statement, the faction linked the initiative to hardship, poverty and insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led administration. Turaki said the process must be based on transparency, equality, data-driven decisions and egalitarianism. The group’s stated aim is to prevent a repeat of the 2023 presidential election, when opposition votes were divided among several candidates.
