Turceni Power Plant Unit 5 to Return Online Monday After Repairs

The Turceni Thermal Power Plant's energy unit 5 is set to resume operations on Monday, August 24, following technical repairs. Cristian Bușoi, state secretary at the Ministry of Energy, confirmed that the necessary work would be completed over the weekend, allowing the unit to reconnect to the national energy system by Monday afternoon.

The unit experienced technical problems, leading to its shutdown on Thursday night, August 20. Bușoi assured the public that these issues would be resolved promptly and that the temporary closure would not affect the security of energy supply during the repair period or lead to increased prices for consumers.

This development comes as the energy sector faces increasing pressure, with units 5 and 6 at the Rovinari plant also recently brought back online. These measures aim to ensure sufficient electricity production, particularly during periods of high demand. Separately, environmental authorities are investigating a significant fish kill incident in the Jiu River near the Turceni plant.
