Turkey allows up to 70% discount on cinema tickets with new regulations

Turkey's cinema sector is set to experience a boost with new regulations from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which pave the way for substantial discounts on ticket prices. The updated rules, published in the Official Gazette, introduce a "film special ticket" category and restructure discount rates across various ticket types.

Under the new "film special ticket" provision, discounts of up to 70% on the full ticket price can be applied. These discounts will be determined through agreements between film producers and cinema operators. This initiative aims to make moviegoing more accessible and potentially stimulate demand.

Beyond the "film special ticket," the regulations also outline other discount opportunities. Specific demographic groups, such as seniors, public sector employees, and students, can receive discounts of up to 40%. Additional reductions of up to 10% are available for tickets purchased online, on top of other applicable discounts. Special rates are also available for individuals with disabilities, relatives of martyrs, early morning screenings, and institutional or special audience tickets, with discounts reaching up to 50% in these cases.

The discount rates and fixed prices for "film special tickets" will be established via contracts between cinema operators and film producers or distributors. Information related to these ticket sales must be reported to the Ministry through infrastructure provided by authorized associations. These new discount rules will apply to participating cinemas nationwide starting from the date the regulation was published.
