Turkey and Egypt Sign Defense Cooperation Deal to Boost Regional Stability

Türkiye and Egypt are set to deepen their defense and security cooperation, a move aimed at advancing peace and reinforcing regional stability. A letter of intent signed during Egyptian Minister of Defense Ashraf Salem Zaher’s visit to Ankara on Monday signifies the countries' commitment to formalizing their partnership on an institutional basis.

Ministry spokesman Zeki Akturk highlighted that the document reflects a strong desire to build upon historical ties and explore new avenues for collaboration that can support broader regional peace, stability, and security. He noted that recent high-level exchanges have injected fresh momentum into their military cooperation.

The collaboration encompasses expanded contacts between military delegations, aiming to deepen defense and security dialogue. Specific initiatives include advancements in military training, joint operations, and the defense industry. This follows a series of high-level visits, including Zaher's trip, the first by an Egyptian defense minister since 2013, and previous visits by senior Egyptian military officials, marking a gradual normalization of relations after years of tension since 2013.
