Turkey's intel chief Kalın meets PUK leader Talabani in Iraq, discusses regional stability

Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MİT) chief, İbrahim Kalın, held significant discussions in Iraq, meeting with key political figures to address regional stability and security cooperation. In Sulaymaniyah, Kalın met with Bafel Talabani, the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

Their talks focused on recent regional developments and the importance of maintaining stability in the area. Notably, Talabani reiterated the PUK's support for Turkey's "Terror-Free Turkey" initiative, a process aimed at combating terrorism. Talabani stated that, following the path of "President Mam Jalal," the PUK is committed to fostering coexistence and achieving comprehensive peace that contributes to security and stability across the Middle East.

Kalın's visit also included extensive meetings in Baghdad. He conferred with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani and other high-ranking officials, including the President of Iraq, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, and the National Security Advisor. Discussions centered on strengthening cooperation between Turkey and Iraq, particularly in security and intelligence matters.

Earlier, Kalın had visited Erbil, where he met with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani to discuss regional developments impacting security and stability. His itinerary also included a visit to Kirkuk, where he inspected the historic Kirkuk Castle and met with Turkmen officials and the Governor of Kirkuk.
