Turkey's life expectancy at birth reaches 78.5 years

The average life expectancy at birth in Turkey has increased to 78.5 years for the 2023-2025 period, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

This figure represents a rise from the 78.1 years recorded for the 2022-2024 period. The data indicates a notable gender gap, with women in Turkey living considerably longer than men. For the 2023-2025 period, women's life expectancy at birth is 81.1 years, while men's is 75.9 years, a difference of 5.2 years.

Further analysis reveals that life expectancy correlates with education levels; individuals with higher education tend to live longer. The data also highlights the expected remaining years for different age groups. For instance, a 15-year-old can expect to live an additional 64.7 years, and a 65-year-old approximately 18.4 more years. The report also calculated the healthy life expectancy at birth, which stands at 58 years for the total population, with men expecting to live more healthy years (59.1) than women (56.9).
