Turkish Parliament extends work into August to finalize key legislation

The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) has approved a proposal to extend its working calendar, meaning lawmakers will continue their sessions into the first week of August. The decision came after a group motion by the ruling AK Party was discussed and voted upon during a General Assembly meeting chaired by Deputy Speaker Celal Adan. Under the revised schedule, the General Assembly will continue its work until the completion of deliberations on the "Law Amending the Higher Education Law and Some Laws" on Tuesday, July 28. Subsequently, discussions on the "Law Amending the Child Protection Law and Some Laws" are slated for Wednesday, July 29, and Thursday, July 30. Should these discussions extend beyond Thursday, the Assembly will convene again on Friday, July 31, at 2:00 p.m., prioritizing the remaining legislative proposals over oversight matters. The extended session aims to finalize several key pieces of legislation. The agenda for the first week of August includes the approval of a protocol amending the International Road Transport Agreement between Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, signed in 1992. This will be followed by discussions on amendments to the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, and other related legislative proposals, including one concerning the Turkish Red Crescent Law. This decision reflects the government's commitment to advancing its legislative agenda, ensuring that important bills are processed and approved before the parliamentary recess. The extended working period underscores the urgency and volume of legislation currently before the Turkish Parliament.

According to the working schedule, on Tuesday, August 4, the Law on the Approval of the Protocol Amending the International Road Transport Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, signed in Bishkek on April 28, 1992, will be discussed.
