Turkish Pentathlete İlke Özyüksel Mihrioğlu Reaches European Championship Final

Turkish modern pentathlete İlke Özyüksel Mihrioğlu has qualified for the final of the 2026 European Championships, held in Istanbul. Competing at the Burhan Felek Sports Complex, Mihrioğlu showcased a remarkable performance in the laser run segment of the women's semifinals. After entering the laser run in eighth place, she surged past her competitors to win the A Group, which featured 18 athletes. This victory secured her a place in the championship final. Mihrioğlu, who has previously won two bronze medals in European competitions, expressed her excitement and relief after qualifying. "The final will be very easy for me now; all the stress and pressure are gone," she stated. "We will do our best in the final. We will have fun. Hopefully, it will end on the podium."

Türkiye Modern Pentathlon Federation President Serhat Aydın congratulated Mihrioğlu, highlighting her resilience despite the challenging, hot weather. "İlke performed as we expected, reaching the final. Despite the very hot weather, İlke did not drop her performance at all and comfortably reached the final," Aydın said. He added his belief that she will make the country proud in the final, raising the Turkish flag. Mihrioğlu will compete for the gold medal in the final on Saturday, August 8.
