Turkish Women's Basketball Team Defeats Portugal Again

The Turkish Women's National Basketball Team, nicknamed the 'Potanın Perileri' (Peris of the Hoop), secured a 56-44 victory over Portugal in their second preparatory match for the FIBA 2026 Women's World Cup. The game took place at the Turkcell Basketball Development Center.

Turkey established an early lead, finishing the first quarter 14-2, extending it to 28-11 by halftime, and concluding the third period with a commanding 45-24 advantage. The team, which started with Elif İstanbulluoğlu, Sevgi Uzun, Alperi Onar, Sinem Ataş, and Esra Ural, maintained their dominance throughout the match.

The game was attended by key figures from the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF), including President Hidayet Türkoğlu, Vice President Harun Erdenay, and several board members. Their presence underscored the importance of these preparation games.

Following this win, the national team will continue their World Cup preparations with two friendly matches against the Czech Republic on August 22-23. They will then travel to Cologne, Germany, for two additional matches against the German national team on August 26 and 27, before heading to Berlin for the main tournament from September 4-13.
