Twelve years in prison for man in suitcase body trial

A Stuttgart court has sentenced a 51-year-old man to twelve years in prison for the murder of a 39-year-old acquaintance. The victim's body was discovered in a suitcase in a dried-up stream bed south of Stuttgart in August of the previous year, a discovery that garnered national attention.

The regional court determined that the accused killed the woman, whom he had met in the local drug scene several weeks prior to the incident. He then wrapped her body in trash bags and placed it inside a suitcase, which was subsequently abandoned in Filderstadt. The prosecution had sought a fourteen-year sentence for the charge of manslaughter.

Many crucial questions surrounding the case remain unanswered, including the exact cause of death and the motive behind the killing. The victim had been reported missing on July 21, 2025, with her remains found approximately one month later. The defendant reportedly maintained in his final statement that he did not know the victim.

Investigators were led to the accused following a tip from an anonymous witness. The court's verdict is not yet legally binding, meaning it can still be appealed.
