Twisha faced 'sustained psychological harm' from husband, mother-in-law: CBI chargesheet

Former actor-model Twisha Sharma died by suicide in May, allegedly after enduring "sustained psychological harm" inflicted by her husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet accusing the two individuals of abetment to suicide in connection with Sharma's death.

Sharma, 33, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12, just five months after her marriage to Samarth, who is also a lawyer. Her husband had informed the police that she hanged herself at home. Doctors at AIIMS Bhopal confirmed she was brought to the hospital deceased.

The CBI's nearly 600-page charge sheet, filed on August 14, accuses Samarth and Giribala Singh of causing Twisha "sustained psychological harm." The agency has charged them under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for cruelty, harassment, abetment of suicide, and common intention. The investigation remains open regarding claims of dowry demands and dowry death.

Forensic psychological assessments of Twisha's diaries, chats, and CCTV footage indicated she experienced "hopelessness, sustained psychological harm and absence of support." Her messages revealed distress, with one shortly before her death stating, "Let me die in peace right now." A second autopsy, conducted by a team from AIIMS Delhi, confirmed ante-mortem hanging as the cause of death, describing it as suicidal in manner.
