Two arrested after alleged coward punch outside Adelaide Oval

Two 21-year-old men have been arrested following an alleged assault near the Adelaide Oval footbridge on Saturday night. South Australia Police reported that the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when the two accused approached a 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old man.

A verbal altercation reportedly ensued between the groups. During the confrontation, the 38-year-old victim was allegedly punched. Police stated that his head struck the ground as he fell, rendering him unconscious. He was subsequently transported to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The 38-year-old's companion, the 37-year-old man, was also allegedly assaulted during the incident.

Witnesses present at the scene alerted police officers, who pursued the alleged offenders through the city. The two suspects were observed entering a licensed venue on King William Street, where they reportedly changed their clothing. Both men, identified as residents of Mount Barker, were subsequently arrested.

One of the arrested individuals has been charged with assault and assault causing harm. The other faces a charge of assisting an offender. Police are appealing to the public for any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact Crime Stoppers and provide their information regarding the incident.
