Two Boeing planes put up for auction in Romania, with bids starting at €238,000

Two Boeing 737-500 aircraft built in 1991 are up for auction in Romania, each with a starting price of 238,000 euros. The planes once flew for Lufthansa and later joined the fleet of Blue Air, which subsequently ceased operations.

One aircraft is parked in Bacău, while the other is at Forlì Airport in Italy. The auctions will run on the Romanian Azitis platform from Aug. 18, 2026, at 5 p.m. until Aug. 25 at the same time. Participants must provide a 250,000-leu guarantee, approximately 50,000 euros. No applications had been submitted when the article was published.

The starting price does not guarantee a sale. The seller has also set a minimum price below which it can refuse to complete the transaction.

For potential buyers, the price is only the beginning. Both aircraft have been out of service for several years, and the lack of maintenance has affected their airworthiness. The Bacău aircraft has received neither maintenance nor engine storage work since June 2022. According to the auction platform, it lost its airworthiness status and would need Boeing’s approval and a repair estimate before returning to service.

The aircraft in Italy faces a similar situation, along with outstanding parking fees. A buyer seeking to fly either plane again would need to make considerable investments. Dismantling the aircraft and selling their components on the second-hand market could be a simpler alternative.
