Two Critical After Head-On Collision in Perk, Belgium

A serious head-on collision on Vilvoordsesteenweg in Perk, Steenokkerzeel, Belgium, left three people injured, two of whom are in critical condition. The accident occurred around 6:20 PM near Peeterslaan, prompting a significant response from emergency services, including three ambulances and two rapid response medical teams.

Firefighters were required to extricate one individual who was trapped inside their vehicle. According to Mélanie Geeraerts of the Halle-Vilvoorde prosecutor's office, a 46-year-old man from one of the cars was taken to the hospital but is not in life-threatening danger. However, the two occupants of the second vehicle, including the 69-year-old female driver who had to be freed by emergency crews, were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

A traffic expert was dispatched to the scene to investigate the cause of the crash. Preliminary findings indicate that one of the vehicles drifted out of its lane, resulting in the frontal collision with the oncoming traffic. Authorities have stated that there are currently no indications that alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

The road was temporarily closed to allow emergency services and the traffic expert to conduct their work. It has since been reopened. The prosecutor's office continues to investigate the precise circumstances of the collision.
