Two dead, including gunman, at school shooting in Thailand

A student opened fire at a school in Thailand's Nonthaburi province on Friday, resulting in the deaths of at least one teacher and the perpetrator, and injuring four others. The suspect, identified as an 18-year-old student, died by suicide after the attack.

Authorities confirmed the casualties, stating that one teacher and three students were among the injured. The shooting took place in the Bang Kruai district, north of Bangkok. Emergency services responded to the scene, with photos showing students being evacuated from Debsirin Nonthaburi School.

One 18-year-old student described hearing multiple gunshots, initially mistaking them for firecrackers. "I didn’t think it was a gun at first," he told Reuters. "There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again."

The school, which had an enrollment of approximately 3,100 students and 147 teachers in the 2025 academic year, is located on the northwestern outskirts of Bangkok. This incident echoes a previous tragedy in February, when a teacher was killed and a student injured in a school shooting in the Hat Yai district of southern Thailand.
