Two detained as German police probe arson attack on Munich defence firm

German police arrested a 28-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, both Bulgarian nationals, after a suspected arson attack at a construction site near Rohde & Schwarz's headquarters in Munich.

A Bavarian police spokesperson confirmed the arson investigation but said authorities had no evidence that the attack specifically targeted the defence technology company. The fire was quickly extinguished, caused no significant damage and injured no one.

Rohde & Schwarz confirmed that an incident occurred at a construction site near its headquarters. German authorities have heightened security around infrastructure after the government said Russia was behind an attempted drone attack on a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle airport last month.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has warned that foreign powers, particularly Russia, could use left-wing extremist groups as proxies for sabotage. He said some of those groups increasingly echo Russian narratives about the war in Ukraine.
