Two faint during chaotic concert at Smukfest

Two attendees fainted amid chaotic conditions at a crowded The Minds of 99 concert during the Smukfest festival on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at the Bøgepladsen area, where an estimated 38,000 guests were present. Smukfest's head of security, Thomas Rydahl, confirmed that emergency personnel quickly assisted the two individuals. He acknowledged that the situation was suboptimal and created anxiety among other concertgoers. "Both personally and as a festival, I feel very bad about it. That is not what we are here for. We are here to create a festival where people can have a good time," Rydahl told DR. In total, ten people were reportedly squeezed and had to be helped over a bar counter due to the intense pressure. Rydahl attributed the chaotic situation to the festival not adequately accounting for the crowd pressure outside the immediate stage area. "What some audience members experienced last night at The Minds of 99 reflects some safety technical details that we have not taken into account in the reorganization of areas outside Bøgepladsen, and we are incredibly sorry about that," Rydahl stated in a written response to Ritzau. He emphasized that the festival's immediate focus is on the remaining attendees on the final day, after which Smukfest will conduct a thorough investigation into Saturday's events. "We will, of course, thoroughly examine the festival site and assess what we can specifically adjust for next year so that something similar does not happen again, because we will of course do everything we can to avoid it," Rydahl added.
