Two fishermen found dead in Pohang reservoir; elderly woman rescued from sea

Tragedy struck in Pohang, South Korea, as two men in their 60s were found dead in a reservoir after a fishing trip. The incident occurred in the Gye-myeon area of Buk-gu district.

Rescue authorities were alerted early on August 2nd when the two men, who had gone fishing together, did not return. A search operation involving 28 personnel and 10 pieces of equipment was launched. The bodies of the two men were discovered in the water at approximately 2:49 a.m. and 2:54 a.m. respectively. Both were deceased upon recovery. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding their deaths, but initial findings suggest no criminal involvement.

In a separate incident on the same day, an 80-year-old woman was found in cardiac arrest after going to collect sea urchins. The woman, identified as a free diver, had entered the sea in the Cheongha-myeon area of Buk-gu. She was reported missing, and the Pohang Coast Guard located her in a state of cardiac arrest approximately 20 minutes after the report, at 8:30 a.m. She was subsequently transported to a hospital.
