Two Injured, 320 Without Power After Serious Crash in Tasmania's South

A serious single-vehicle crash in Blackmans Bay, south of Hobart, left two people injured on Monday morning. Emergency services responded to the scene just after 9 a.m. after reports of the collision on Burwood Drive. One individual sustained serious injuries, while another suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both are currently receiving treatment at the Royal Hobart Hospital. The incident also caused a significant power outage, affecting around 320 residents. Initially, 1,500 customers were without electricity. Power lines fell in the area as a result of the crash. Burwood Road between Dianella Drive and Lomandra Drive remains closed as emergency services continue their response. Tasmania Police confirmed that investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing. The state has seen a slight reduction in serious road accidents this year. As of last Wednesday, there had been 120 serious crashes in 2026, resulting in 16 fatalities and 133 injuries, a marginal decrease compared to the same period last year.
