In a decisive move to curb rampant extortion, Guatemalan authorities have implemented a stringent isolation protocol for two inmates at the Renovación 1 prison. These individuals, identified as key figures in extorting local businessmen, have been confined to specialized container-style cells, a measure previously reserved for high-profile gang leaders like "El Lobo." This action, detailed by the General Directorate of the Penitentiary System (DGSP), underscores the government's commitment to dismantling criminal networks operating from behind bars.

The recent operation, which also yielded a significant cache of contraband including eight cell phones, illegal communication equipment, drugs, and bladed weapons, highlights the persistent challenges faced by the penitentiary system. The isolation cells, constructed from shipping containers and measuring approximately 29 square meters, are designed to sever the inmates' ability to direct criminal activities.
