Two killed in machete attack at Lagos cinema

Two individuals were killed during an attack at a cinema in Lekki, Lagos State, on Friday night when a man armed with a machete and a knife stormed the facility. The incident caused panic among patrons and staff.

The suspect reportedly attempted to enter the cinema but was confronted by security personnel. Eyewitness accounts suggest the man became violent after being denied entry and subsequently attacked the guards.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect fatally stabbed one security guard and injured another. The assailant was then mobbed and died during the altercation. Police spokesperson SP Adebisi Abimbola confirmed that two people died in the incident.

Authorities are investigating the identities of the deceased and the full circumstances surrounding the attack. The suspect appeared to be destitute and may have been under the influence of drugs. The Chief Security Officer of the cinema has been taken into custody as part of the investigation. Police are also working to obtain and review CCTV footage from the premises to establish the sequence of events and determine if others were involved.
