Two more of Brad Pitt's children file requests to drop actor's surname

Zahara, 21, and Maddox, 24, two of actor Brad Pitt's children, have submitted legal applications to remove the Hollywood star's surname, citing personal reasons for the change. This marks the latest development in the protracted dispute between Pitt and his former wife, Angelina Jolie, which has continued since their separation ten years ago.

According to documents filed electronically last month in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Zahara requested her name be changed from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie. Her brother, Maddox, also sought court permission in late May to remove "Pitt" from his compound surname. California law requires public announcements of name changes in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, with court decisions expected in September if no objections arise.

CNN reported attempts to contact representatives for Brad Pitt, Zahara, and Maddox were unsuccessful. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt married in 2014 and filed for divorce in 2016. They share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. In 2016, Jolie accused Pitt of physically assaulting her and verbally abusing their children during a private plane flight from France to the United States. Pitt was investigated by the FBI but was not arrested or charged.

Earlier in 2024, Shiloh filed a request to change her surname, removing her father's name to be known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. A source close to the actor reportedly stated that Pitt was "aware of the situation and upset" by his daughter's decision. Additionally, in 2024, their daughter Vivienne used the surname "Jolie" for the Tony-winning musical "The Outsiders," which she co-produced with Angelina Jolie.
