Two sailors missing after drone hits ship near Odesa; rescue operation underway

An extensive search and rescue operation is underway in the Sulina area of the Black Sea after two crew members went missing when their commercial vessel was struck. The ship, identified as the MV AGN Ragnar, was hit near the Ukrainian port of Odesa.

The Apollo vessel, belonging to ARSVOM, departed at 10:27 AM at the request of MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre) towards the AGN Ragnar vessel to search for the two missing citizens.

The Romanian authorities, specifically ARSVOM (Romanian Authority for Naval Resources), have deployed the vessel Apollo to aid in the search. The Coast Guard is also participating with a vessel in the waters near Sfântu Gheorghe, coordinating with other relevant authorities. The mission is focused on locating the two missing individuals.

The MV AGN Ragnar was reportedly carrying four Indian nationals. Initial reports indicate that two of the crew members have been confirmed safe. However, information regarding the other two sailors is still pending, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

The Indian Embassy in Ukraine has confirmed that search and rescue operations are ongoing and that they are in contact with the relevant authorities. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has also issued guidance for Indian citizens working on ships in the Black Sea region.
