Two sea lions return to the wild after rehabilitation in Buenos Aires

Two sea lions have returned to the wild after a rescue and rehabilitation effort at the Ecoparque in Buenos Aires.

Civil Defense rescued the animals at the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve and the Fishermen’s Club before bringing them to the Ecoparque’s Native Wildlife Rescue Center. Veterinarians and animal keepers treated, cared for and rehabilitated the sea lions before releasing them.

After being rescued by Civil Defense at the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve and the Fishermen’s Club, these two sea lions arrived at our Ecoparque Wildlife Rescue Center, where they were treated, cared for and rehabilitated by our team of veterinarians and animal keepers.

The animals traveled more than 340 kilometers from the Ecoparque to reach the Atlantic coast. The center described their return as a journey through sand and waves to the place where they belong.

The Ecoparque’s rescue center receives native wildlife rescued by residents or authorities. Its work includes veterinary treatment, rehabilitation of natural behavior and, whenever possible, release back into the animals’ habitat. Hawks, owls, lizards, weasels and other species have also passed through the facility.
