Two students drown in Kurigram canal

Two young students drowned in a roadside canal in the Phulbari upazila of Kurigram district on Tuesday. The victims, both 8 years old, were identified as Lushi Khatun and Arshi Akter.

The bodies were discovered floating in the canal in Rabaitari village around 9:00 PM. Lushi Khatun was a resident of Rabaitari village, while Arshi Akter hailed from Nowdabas village in Bara Bhita union. Both girls were students at Rabaitari Government Primary School.

The bodies had been handed over to the families as they had no complaints regarding the deaths.

According to local police and the families of the deceased, the two girls had gone out to play together on Tuesday afternoon. They later entered a nearby canal to bathe. When they did not return home by evening, their families initiated a search, which led to the discovery of their bodies by local residents.

Phulbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmud Hasan Nayeem confirmed that the bodies were handed over to the families as they had no complaints regarding the circumstances of the deaths. An unnatural death (UD) case has been registered with the police.
