Two suspects arrested for stealing expressway streetlights in Bien Hoa - Vung Tau

Dong Nai police have arrested two suspects, Dang Quoc Tin, 32, and Truong Ngoc Minh, 24, for allegedly stealing streetlights from the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway. This marks the third incident of theft targeting the expressway's lighting system, resulting in total damages of billions of dong.

According to initial investigations, Tin and Minh confessed to cutting streetlight cables on July 31 to sell the copper for money. They reportedly earned 6 million dong from selling the stolen materials to an unidentified scrap dealer.

Project Management Board 85, the investor for a section of the expressway, stated that the repeated thefts have not only caused significant financial losses but also impacted the schedule for the project's final inspection and official opening, which was intended to be completed before Vietnam's National Day on September 2. The 54-kilometer expressway, which began construction in June 2023, has been open for temporary use since April 29, 2026.
