Typhoon Bavi heads straight for Okinawa! Storm chaser captures 'waves swallowing whole body' on Ishigaki Island

Typhoon Bavi, a large and powerful storm, is currently bearing down on Japan's Okinawa region. Renowned storm chaser and meteorologist Reed Timmer is on Ishigaki Island, capturing dramatic footage of the typhoon's effects. One video shows Timmer standing near a breakwater as a massive wave crashes over him, drenching him completely.

Despite the fierce wind and spray, Timmer attempts to speak on camera, but the sound of the wind significantly overwhelms his voice. Throughout the recording, waves repeatedly hit him, highlighting the dangerous conditions.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported on the morning of July 11 that the typhoon's central pressure had dropped to 940 hectopascals. Maximum sustained winds near the center were recorded at 40 meters per second, with instantaneous gusts reaching up to 60 meters per second. This intensity has led to the issuance of a Level 4 dangerous storm surge warning for Nanjo City and Ishigaki Island, and a Level 3 landslide warning for Miyako Island.

Authorities are warning residents about the potential for strong winds to cause some houses to collapse. They strongly advise people to stay indoors in sturdy buildings, away from windows, unless absolutely necessary. The storm's approach signifies a serious threat to the region, with conditions expected to deteriorate rapidly.
