Typhoon Dolphin Hits China's Shanghai, Disneyland Closes Early, 210,000 Evacuated

Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in China, bringing heavy rains and significant disruptions to Shanghai and surrounding areas. The Shanghai Disneyland theme park closed early on Sunday due to the severe weather.

China's Central Meteorological Observatory issued the second-highest typhoon red alert, followed by an orange heavy rain warning. Forecasters predicted rainfall of up to 320 millimeters in eastern Zhejiang and parts of Anhui province, with hourly rates potentially exceeding 80 millimeters. The typhoon was moving northwest at speeds of 20 to 25 kilometers per hour, with its intensity expected to gradually weaken.

The typhoon's impact led to widespread damage reports. Shanghai Railway Group suspended services on several high-speed rail lines, including Shanghai-Kunming and Hangzhou-Wenzhou. Subway operations were also halted in parts of Shanghai. Local media reported that approximately 1,300 flights were canceled at Shanghai's Pudong and Hongqiao airports.

Beyond transportation, tourist attractions were affected, with Shanghai Disneyland closing early. The popular Wukang Road, a tourist hotspot, was submerged. In Shanghai alone, around 210,000 people were evacuated to safer locations as a precautionary measure against the typhoon's effects.
