Tirol Governor Anton Mattle has firmly backed Chancellor Christian Stocker, the leader of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), endorsing him as the party's leading candidate for the 2029 national elections. Mattle expressed his strong support in an interview with APA, emphasizing the tradition within the ÖVP for the party chairman to lead them into an election.

"I appreciate him. Christian Stocker is the party chairman. And in the ÖVP, it is customary for the chairman to contest the upcoming election," Mattle stated. He further commended Stocker for assuming the role of Chancellor during a particularly challenging period. "Chancellor Stocker took on government responsibility in not an easy time, with multiple crises, geopolitical uncertainty, and high inflation," Mattle added.
