U.S. ambassador Kevin Marino Cabrera highlights regional cooperation against drug cartels

U.S. Ambassador to Panama Kevin Marino Cabrera has welcomed Colombia’s participation in the Coalition Against Cartels in the Americas, saying the move will strengthen the regional fight against drug trafficking.

Cabrera pointed to actions by Colombia’s new government against drug cartels and said adding the country to the coalition would give the hemisphere another partner in confronting criminal organizations. “There is a new government in Colombia, which our president supported in its candidacy, and I believe it will be a change for the betterment of the hemisphere. We will have one more country joining us,” he said.

The ambassador described Colombia as part of a key region in the fight against drug-trafficking groups. He emphasized the importance of integrating the country into joint regional efforts against the narcotics trade.

Cabrera also highlighted Panama’s role in the strategy, noting that it had belonged to the coalition since its early days. “Panama was also part of it from the beginning, and we are working on it. He said regional cooperation includes ongoing drug interdiction and seizure operations. Those efforts aim to weaken trafficking structures and prevent criminal organizations from continuing to use the region for illegal activities.
