U17 Women's Volleyball advances to 5th-place match after defeating Thailand 3-0

The South Korean U17 women's volleyball team has secured a spot in the 5th-place playoff at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Championship after a decisive 3-0 victory over Thailand. The match took place at the National Stadium Park Court in Santiago, Chile.

Under the guidance of head coach Lee Seung-yeo, the Korean team dominated Thailand with set scores of 25-19, 25-15, and 25-11. This win sets up a 5th-place match against Italy on July 17th. The team had previously enjoyed a strong run in the tournament, winning all five group stage matches and defeating the Philippines in the round of 16.

However, their aspirations for a top-four finish were dashed when they lost to Turkey in the quarterfinals, pushing them into the classification matches. Despite the disappointment of not reaching the semifinals, the Korean team displayed high concentration and powerful play against Thailand.

Son Seo-yeon, often dubbed the 'next Kim Yeon-koung,' was instrumental in the victory, scoring 19 points and leading the team's attack. Jang Su-in also contributed significantly with 14 points. The team's strong serves and diverse offensive strategies overwhelmed Thailand's defense from the start, securing an early advantage in the first set and maintaining momentum throughout the match.
