UAE condemns alleged Iranian attack on ADNOC vessel in Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned what it described as a hostile Iranian attack on a vessel linked to its state oil company, ADNOC, as it transited the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE Foreign Ministry labeled the incident an "act of piracy" and accused Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) of violating international norms.

State news agency WAM initially reported that an ADNOC vessel was targeted by a missile early Saturday. While the situation was reported as under control and no injuries were immediately announced, the UAE ministry later issued a more forceful condemnation. The ministry stated the attack violated a UN Security Council resolution on freedom of navigation and accused Iran of using the vital waterway for economic pressure.

This incident adds to the growing security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies. Approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passes through this narrow waterway. Shipping has faced repeated disruptions since the US-Israeli war on Iran commenced on February 28, leading to increased freight rates.
