UAE Indian schools move from internal assessments to early CBSE 2027 preparation

UAE Indian schools are moving quickly from back-to-school routines into assessment season. Younger students are returning to daily lessons while preparing for Term I examinations, with schools using regular testing to identify gaps and build examination skills.

At Sharjah Indian School, exams for different year groups are scheduled to begin in roughly two to three weeks. Principal Pramod Mahajan said revision has already started and reported that about 85% of students had returned during the opening days, a stronger early attendance figure than in the previous three or four years.

Ambassador School Sharjah has taken a different approach. Principal Arogya Reddy said the school usually begins internal assessments in the third week of September, but it has moved them to October this year. The nearly two-month summer break and the timing of Onam meant that families were still returning as the new academic year began.

The Term I exams will start in about 15 to 20 days for the different year groups, so revision has already begun. What has been particularly encouraging this year is the attendance from Day 1. It has been quite impressive compared to the last three or four years. Around 85 per cent of our students have returned in these early days, which is a very positive start to the academic year.

The later schedule does not apply to board classes. Because Indian-curriculum schools follow an April-to-March academic year, Class 10 and 12 students are already further along in their preparation. Their timetable includes preparatory examinations, practicals and board exams over the coming months.

School leaders said the emphasis is not simply on starting revision early. They want regular assessments to expose weaknesses, strengthen confidence and improve examination technique, rather than leaving preparation until the final weeks.

Usually, we begin our internal assessments and exams in the third week of September. But this time, the summer break was almost two months long, and with Onam falling towards the end of August, families are still returning as the new academic year begins. Although attendance has been quite good, we decided to push the exams slightly later this year, to October.
