UAE's ministry announces 15 incentives, insurance for human organ and tissue donors

The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Health and Prevention has announced a comprehensive package of 15 incentives and benefits designed to support individuals who donate organs and tissues, as well as their families. This initiative aims to encourage organ donation by providing tangible rewards and recognition for this life-saving act.

The benefits are categorized into medical, insurance, and in-kind supports. Ten distinct in-kind incentives are offered, alongside one insurance benefit and four medical benefits. These provisions are outlined in a decision by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, detailing the scope of support available to donors and their loved ones.

Among the in-kind benefits are provisions for accommodation facilities near the hospital where the donation or treatment takes place, and logistical and administrative assistance for the patient’s companions. The ministry will also cover necessary travel and transportation expenses related to the donation process. Furthermore, donors will receive assistance for work absences during their recovery period, and essential home care support post-donation.

In recognition of their altruism, donors, whether living or deceased, will be granted certificates of appreciation or honorary medals. The ministry will also send official annual letters of gratitude. To further honor their contributions, the humanitarian stories of donors may be documented and shared at national, academic, artistic, or humanitarian events, celebrating their generosity and inspiring others.
