UBA Appoints Emmanuel Nnorom as New Group Chairman, Succeeding Tony Elumelu

United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has welcomed Emmanuel Nnorom as its new Group Chairman, marking a transition in leadership following the retirement of Tony Elumelu. Nnorom, a long-serving Non-Executive Director on the board, officially assumed the position on August 21, 2026.

UBA announced Nnorom's welcome on social media, highlighting his extensive background as a seasoned business leader and chartered accountant with more than four decades of experience. The bank emphasized that Nnorom has spent over eight years in senior leadership positions within the UBA Group, including roles such as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa, Group Chief Operating Officer, and Group Chief Financial Officer.

Elumelu retired after completing the maximum tenure permitted for non-executive directors under the Central Bank of Nigeria's corporate governance guidelines. Nnorom's appointment is seen as a strategic move to leverage his deep understanding of UBA's operations and its pan-African expansion journey.
