Udo Lindenberg hospitalized, cancels performance

German music icon Udo Lindenberg has canceled a scheduled appearance in his birth city of Gronau due to health issues. The 80-year-old Panikrocker (Panic rocker) is currently receiving hospital treatment, which his doctors advise will require him to take a break for the coming weeks.

Lindenberg's PR agency clarified that the hospitalization is for a "troublesome gastritis," an inflammation of the stomach lining. He reportedly went to a Hamburg hospital for a routine health check-up, which he decided to combine with the necessary treatment for his gastritis. This decision followed a period of birthday celebrations and a short holiday in Scotland, after which his doctor identified the condition.

Despite the cancellation, Lindenberg conveyed his deep appreciation for the thousands of birthday wishes he received. He described himself as "completely flashed, flattened, moved, and happy" by the outpouring of love. He humorously stated his intention to "chase away" his gastritis while also getting a "full body check-up," emphasizing his desire to remain active, aiming to live "at least until 100."

While the "Udo Lindenberg & Friends" event in Gronau has been canceled, a special exhibition titled "Udo L. – aus dem Pott ins Hotel" at the Gronau "rock’n’popmuseum" will proceed as planned. The exhibition features his artwork and includes a faithful replica of his iconic Hamburg hotel room, honoring the musician on his 80th birthday.
