UEFA Champions League Draw for 2026-2027 Season Set for August 27

The highly anticipated draw for the 2026-2027 UEFA Champions League league stage is set to occur on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The prestigious event will be held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, where the fate of 36 participating teams will be determined.

This season marks a format change, with the introduction of a league stage involving 36 clubs. Of these, 29 teams will secure direct entry into this phase, while the remaining seven will earn their spots by successfully navigating the UEFA Champions League qualifying and play-off rounds of the 2025-26 season.

The draw ceremony is scheduled to commence at 19:00 CET. Following the draw, the first matches of the league stage are slated to take place between September 8 and 10, 2026. The extensive league phase will feature a total of eight match weeks, concluding with the final set of games on January 27, 2027.

Each team will face eight different opponents, playing four home games and four away games. While the general principle is to avoid pairing teams from the same country, exceptions can be made under specific circumstances, particularly for leagues with four or more representatives. After the eight rounds of matches, the top eight teams in the league standings will qualify directly for the Round of 16. Teams ranked 9th through 24th will proceed to the knockout play-off round, while those finishing 25th or lower will be eliminated from European competitions for the season.
