Topuria, who holds titles in both featherweight and lightweight divisions, secured the lightweight championship on June 28, 2025, becoming the tenth fighter in UFC history to hold two belts simultaneously. This upcoming bout, part of the UFC Freedom 250 event, marks an unusual venue for the sport. "It will be one of the biggest events and will surely go down in history," Topuria stated, anticipating the significance of fighting at the residence of Donald Trump. The fighter, born in Germany to Georgian parents, began his martial arts journey in Georgia before moving to Spain at 15. He spoke about the profound impact of his early life, including his family's emigration and the 2008 war in Georgia. "For any eight-year-old child, heroes are their parents. And when your heroes have to leave and emigrate in Europe for a better future for you and your family, it's complicated. And more so when the war of 2008 happens during that period, without your heroes; it's complicated," Topuria reflected. He added that these difficult experiences forced him to mature early but ultimately shaped the person he is today, expressing gratitude for all he has endured. "All the experiences I had formed who I am today. If I hadn't had them, maybe I would be another person, so I am grateful for everything I have had to live through," he said.
