Uganda declares end to Ebola epidemic after 42 days without new infections

Uganda has officially declared an end to the Ebola epidemic, marking a significant victory in the fight against the deadly virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed the declaration after the country completed 42 consecutive days without any new reported cases. This milestone signifies the successful containment of the outbreak that began in September 2022.

The epidemic, caused by the Sudan strain of Ebola, had a devastating impact on the nation. A total of 142 people were infected, and tragically, 55 of them succumbed to the virus. The outbreak particularly affected the central Mubende district, which was the epicenter of the initial spread.
