Uganda: President Museveni Grants Official Burial to Gen. Moses Ali

Uganda is preparing to give an official burial to the late Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, a former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Adjumani County West. President Yoweri Museveni has granted the state honor for the distinguished patriot and elder statesman.

The announcement came from Milly Babirye Babalanda, the Minister for the Presidency, who confirmed the National Organising Committee is working with the family to ensure a fitting send-off. She extended condolences to the President, the bereaved family, and the people of Adjumani and Uganda.

Dear friends, I wish to inform you all that the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Gen. Rtd. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has granted an official burial to the fallen member of Parliament for Adjumani West County-Adjumani District, a distinguished patriot, elder statesman, and former 2nd Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. (Rtd.) Hon. Moses Ali.

A special parliamentary sitting is tentatively scheduled for Monday, July 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. to pay tribute to the veteran leader. President Museveni remembered Gen. Ali as a "dedicated soldier, political leader and exemplary modern farmer" whose contributions to national development would be greatly missed.

Gen. Ali passed away at Nakasero Hospital on Saturday afternoon at the age of 87, following admission for unspecified ailments. His family reported he had been in a coma before his death. He had recently left active government service in May 2026 due to medical reasons, with his son Siraji Musa Ali subsequently appointed Minister of State for Works and Transport. Born in 1939 in the Adjumani District, Moses Ali had a long career that included military training in Israel and the United Kingdom.

Gen Moses Ali has provided service to his country for a long time, as a soldier and a political leader. In the West Nile region, he provided the good example of being a big modern farmer. We shall miss greatly his contribution. May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace.
