Uganda to Boost Vaccine Production with New Bio-Science Park

President Yoweri Museveni has welcomed Iranian investors to establish the HUVET Bio-Science Park, a project he described as a significant step towards Uganda's vaccine sovereignty and regional leadership in biotechnology. The park aims to spearhead local vaccine production, veterinary biotechnology, and scientific innovation, thereby reducing the nation's reliance on imported biological products.

During a meeting at State House, Entebbe, Museveni pledged his full support to the investors, led by Eng. Hashem Azimi. Azimi recounted a nearly two-decade-old challenge from Museveni at an Islamic Cooperation summit, where the president questioned his company's manufacturing intentions. "Your Excellency, today, 18 years later, I stand before you to fulfill that promise," Azimi stated, emphasizing that the project represents the realization of a long-matured vision.

Azimi, who has lived and worked in Uganda for nearly 20 years, highlighted the country's economic transformation under Museveni's leadership. He also noted the economic impact of livestock diseases and the reliance on imported vaccines. The HUVET Bio-Science Park is envisioned not just as a factory, but as East Africa's first integrated biotechnology hub for animal health, food security, epidemic preparedness, research, and exports. The project has secured land in Mpigi District, marking a crucial step toward its implementation.
